Services we offer
Screeners & Evaluations
Screeners are a 15 to 20 minute informal evaluation that are conducted to determine whether a full speech/language evaluation is necessary. If the screener indicates that a child will likely need therapy, a full evaluation is scheduled. A typical evaluation lasts about two hours, but can go longer depending on the needs of the child and family. Before the appointment, you will be provided with a case history form that includes any medical diagnoses, information from teachers, other service providers, and background information. At the evaluation appointment, I will thoroughly review the form and ask questions, as necessary. After the case history is completed, standardized and non-standardized procedures will be used to determine current skill level with regards to speech sound production, receptive language, expressive language, pragmatics, cognitive communication, and swallowing/feeding. When the evaluation is complete, I will discuss results with the family and answer any questions. From there, we will develop a treatment plan to move forward with therapy.
Speech Therapy
Based on the results of the evaluation, a treatment plan will be developed and provided to the family. Goals are written for a period of 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, goals are reassessed and updated. Speech therapy will focus on how the child is saying sounds and how the sounds are put together. At home practice will be provided to facilitate carryover of skills and child progress.
Language Therapy
Language therapy focuses on what the child is understanding and how he or she uses words to communicate his or her thoughts. Language therapy can include hands on experiences like cooking or gross motor games. Language therapy may also include a language based board games. Pragmatic language includes how well the child is able to follow rules, take turns, and talk to adults or peers. Nonverbal language, such as how close the child stands to another person, is also part of pragmatic language therapy.
Pediatric Feeding/Dysphagia
Pediatric Feeding/Swallowing therapy focuses on increasing food repertoire for “picky eaters”. Additionally, therapy can focus on how well the child can suck, chew, and swallow foods and liquids. A swallowing/feeding disorder may lead to poor nutrition, weight loss, and other health problems.
Teletherapy
Teletherapy is an option throughout the state of Florida. Since COVID, teletherapy has become a popular option for rural areas or busy families that cannot dedicate the travel time to get to and from a clinic. Teletherapy visits would occur through a secure video connection. This allows the child to receive the help they need without the limitations of distance. An IPAD or computer are required for this service.
